FUSION HEALTH STRESS B MULTI

Relieves mental tiredness and nervous tension.
High potency anti-stress formula with B-group vitamins, Green Tea and alpha-Lipoic acid.
Features and benefits
  • Specially formulated to relieve symptoms of stress, nervous tension and mild anxiety without causing drowsiness, and to improve the ability to cope with stress.
  • Helps energise the body and mind, improve alertness and address physical fatigue, mental tiredness and poor concentration.
  • Contains a therapeutic dose of Green Tea standardised for its content of theanine, a unique amino acid with relaxing, anti-stress properties.
  • Specially formulated to meet the needs of active people leading busy lives.
How it works
Among other functions, the B-group vitamins (which include biotin and folic acid) are involved in maintaining healthy nervous system function and energy production.
For example, vitamin B6 (pyrimidine) is required for the production of many neurotransmitters (brain chemicals that transmit signals from one part of the nervous system to another) including serotonin, which is sometimes referred to as one of the body’s ‘feel good’ chemicals.
Similarly, pantheistic acid (also known as vitamin B5) is required for the healthy functioning of the adrenal glands, and their production of some of the hormones that enable us to cope with stress.
Fusion® Stress B Multi Advanced combines therapeutic levels of these and other members of the B-complex group of vitamins with a high-potency dose of Green Tea (9,100 mg) standardised for its content of an amino acid called Athenian.
In a scientific study 1, healthy young people took either 50 mg of Athenian (equivalent to two Fusion® Stress B Multi Advanced tablets) or a placebo. Over the following couple of hours, brain wave measurements showed that the brains of those who had taken Athenian experienced increased levels of alpha-wave activity, indicating increased feelings of relaxation and mental alertness.
In addition to improving alertness, Athenian also improves the ability to focus the attention (perhaps by helping to blocking out distracting information or stimuli) and increases the accuracy with which tasks are completed 1.
Together, the ingredients in Fusion® Stress B Multi Advanced help to improve resistance to stress, energise the body and mind, and relieve symptoms of stress, nervous tension, mild anxiety, and poor concentration, without causing drowsiness.

Fusion® Health Weight Burn contains standardised extracts of Green Coffee and Green Tea, which have been shown to help activate fat cells to burn fat for energy, enhance weight loss*, improve body fat composition and support normal blood sugar, blood lipids and blood pressure in healthy people.
Weight Burn contains Fusion® Health’s exclusive Green Coffee extract Thermolean®. This high-potency, low-caffeine extract is made from green (or unroasted) coffee beans, and is standardised for its content of CGA.
Clinical research has shown that when overweight people take 700-1050 mg CGA per day (equivalent to 3-4 Weight Burn tablets), they lose more body weight and body fat than people who take either a placebo or a lower dose of CGA (e.g. 190 mg/day), and also experience reductions in their BMI. These results are attributed to CGA’s ability to slow down the absorption of fat and glucose and help healthy people maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
Green Tea extracts standardised for their content of antioxidants called catechins have also been shown to enhance weight loss and lead to reductions in BMI, waist circumference and body fat percentage when taken in doses equivalent to 690 mg catechins per day.
Additionally, the catechins in Green Tea are potent antioxidants that may be beneficial during times of high metabolic activity (such as periods of weight loss and/or strenuous exercise) by helping to scavenge free radicals, reduce oxidative stress and promote normal fat cell function.
From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), both Green Coffee and Green Tea are regarded as having the ability to release the excess Heat and Dampness that often characterises weight problems.
Directions for use:
  • Take 1 tablet three times daily, after a meal.
  • An extra dose maybe taken to enhance results or as professionally advised.
  • During pregnancy, always consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before taking herbal medicines and nutritional supplements.

Are you feeling heavy, lethargic or sluggish?

These feelings of being congested or ‘bogged down’ may indicate that you could benefit from a detox.

Why detox?

Modern life exposes us to a vast number of toxic compounds on a daily basis – they’re not only in our food and drink and the air around us, but can also be produced as natural by-products of our own bodily processes.
Luckily, we also possess several sophisticated methods for detoxifying harmful compounds so that they can be safely eliminated from the body, chiefly via the urine and faeces.
However, those detoxification mechanisms can easily become overloaded, preventing wastes from being metabolised and eliminated effectively. This can result in them being stored in your body, where they may contribute to a wide range of health issues, including mental and physical fatigue, skin problems, fluid retention and digestive issues.
If you’re generally healthy, undergoing a detox may help you to eliminate wastes from your body and manage issues such as fluid retention, mucous congestion, constipation, sluggish digestive function and dysbiosis (imbalance of the intestinal bacteria).
It may also aid the management of mild infections, including boils, fungal infections, tonsillitis and recurrent upper respiratory tract infections such as colds, flu and sinusitis.

When should you detox?

Detoxification needs to be managed carefully under some circumstances, and isn’t appropriate for babies, children, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, elderly people, or those taking certain prescribed medicines.
In addition, if you’re suffering from a serious or chronic disease or have a history of substance abuse or exposure to environmental toxins (such as pesticides, lead-based paint or industrial chemicals), you should only detox under the supervision and care of your healthcare professional.
For everyone else, it’s best to start your detox at a time when you can relax and take things easy, rather than when you’re under pressure or needing to perform at your peak.

What does a detox involve?

A detox period of a few weeks in which you eat a squeaky clean diet (and therefore minimise the number of toxins you consume) and stick to a healthy lifestyle gives your body the chance to clear out the accumulated backlog of unmetabolised toxins, often leaving you feeling fresher, lighter and healthier.
For most healthy people, an optimal detox program should include regular, light, healthy meals along with plenty of fluids, plus abstinence from any substance that adds to the body’s metabolic burden. (Any program that advocates fasting or the severe restriction of food intake should be treated with caution, and attempted only under the management of your healthcare professional).
In many natural therapy traditions, these dietary changes are enhanced by the concurrent use of herbal medicines that support the body’s detoxification pathways and the waste removal functions of the liver, bowel, kidneys, and skin.

Detoxing with traditional Chinese medicine

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the symptoms that prompt us to consider detoxing often indicate excessive Dampness in the body, which tends to make us feel mentally and physically congested, heavy, stagnant and slow, and/or stagnation of the Liver Qi (life force energy), which tends to make us feel tired, tense and frustrated.
These energetic imbalances are often the result of eating too much (especially over-indulging in fatty or greasy foods) or not getting enough exercise.

Dampness makes you feel slow and heavy

In a physical sense, excess Dampness can manifest as fluid retention, weight gain, musculoskeletal stiffness, joint pain and discharging skin conditions that are slow to heal. Dampness has a natural tendency to sink downwards, so these symptoms often affect the legs, ankles and feet, and may be accompanied by feelings of heaviness in the legs.
The digestive functions are also extremely susceptible to excess Dampness, which can impede the flow of Qi around the body. In particular, Damp can disrupt the efficient flow of Qi in the Spleen organ-meridian system (which is regarded as playing a key role in digestion), resulting in symptoms such as indigestion, nausea, loose bowel movements and bloating.
From a mental and emotional perspective, when you’re affected by Dampness, you may experience a general sense of apathy (i.e. that you can’t be bothered making an effort to do things) and/or that your thought processes aren’t as sharp as usual.

Stagnant Liver Qi makes you tired and tense

In TCM, the Liver organ-meridian is considered responsible not only for purifying and detoxifying the Blood, but also for storing it and releasing it to other parts of the body when it’s required.
Congestion or stagnation of the Liver Qi causes the Liver’s detoxifying functions to be compromised, and the accumulated toxins in the Blood may lead to skin problems or exacerbate existing issues such as arthritis.
At the same time, stagnant Liver Qi may impede smooth flow of Blood to other parts of the body, and may result in musculoskeletal aches and stiffness, menstrual problems, digestive issues and fatigue. In particular, if your Liver Qi is stagnant, you may experience tension in your back and neck and find it difficult to find the energy to get going in the morning.
In the same way, stagnant Liver Qi can also disrupt the smooth flow of your emotions and thought processes, which may manifest as tension, impatience, frustration, a bad temper and a negative outlook. You might also find yourself having difficulty making good decisions.

Herbal medicines to support your detox

Chinese herbs to drain Dampness and cool the Liver
In TCM, detoxifying herbs that have traditionally been used to address Damp conditions are also often viewed as having cooling effects that help counteract the excessive Heat that can accumulate when Liver Qi is stagnant. Examples include Chinese Dandelion, Barberry, Rhubarb and Phellodendron.

Herbs to address stagnant Liver Qi and support detoxification

Chinese herbs traditionally used to disperse congested Liver Qi include Bupleurum and Chen Pi. They are often taken with herbs that promote detoxification and the elimination of wastes, such as Goji Berries, Rehmannia and Baical Skullcap.
The Western herb Milk Thistle (St Mary’s Thistle) may provide additional benefits by supporting the healthy structure and function of the liver cells and exerting antioxidant effects on the liver.

Diet and lifestyle recommendations for detoxification

  • If you’re generally healthy but feeling sluggish and congested, detoxing your diet and lifestyle for a few weeks can be a great way to put the spring back in your step and encourage yourself to adopt healthier habits going forward
  • During your detox, avoid caffeine, alcohol and soft drinks, and instead drink abundant quantities of water, and fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Green tea is a great option too as it’s traditionally believed to help relieve Dampness by promoting urination (but make sure to choose one that contains little or no caffeine)
  • If you normally drink a lot of tea, coffee or other caffeine-containing beverages (including cola, guarana and yerba maté), minimise your caffeine withdrawal symptoms by cutting back gradually in the lead-up to your detox
  • Avoid anything that is packaged, deep-fried, fatty or greasy, and steer clear of refined carbohydrates like bread, biscuits, cakes and pasta
  • Eat a light, wholefood diet, favouring fruit and vegetables (preferably organic), lean sources of high quality protein in moderate quantities, and small servings of nuts, seeds and their oils
  • In TCM, foods that are regarded as having detoxifying properties and helping to reduce Dampness include parsley, watercress, seaweed, celery, asparagus, radishes, daikon and bitter varieties of lettuce, such as radicchio
  • Cooling foods such as cucumber and watermelon may also be beneficial as they help to offset the Heat that can accumulate when excess Dampness is present
  • To stimulate the Liver, try to include small quantities of sour flavoured foods in your detox diet – lemons, limes, grapefruit and vinegar are ideal
  • On the other hand, during your detox, try to avoid garlic (which is regarded as having heating effects on the Liver) and peanuts, which are believed to aggravate Dampness
  • In Chinese medicine, repressed emotions are believed to contribute to Liver Qi stagnation, so while you’re clearing out physical toxins and wastes, find a healthy outlet for your emotional baggage too, working with a counsellor if necessary
  • Consider detoxing your home at the same time you detox your body and mind by switching to naturally-based cleaning products – they’re better for you and better for the environment too

It’s that time of year when you should help your liver!

Do you …

  • Feel tired and lethargic all the time?
  • Have difficulty losing weight?
  • Experience poor immunity?
  • Suffer with poor skin health?
  • Experience symptoms of a sluggish metabolism including feelings of bloating, flatulence and nausea?
  • Have elevated cholesterol levels?
  • Experience severity of PMS and Menopausal symptoms?
  • Experience unstable blood sugar levels?
If you have answered yes to any of the above, then it is time to give this vital organ a helping hand!
Every day, your body is exposed to a multitude of toxins, from alcohol, coffee, refined and processed foods, polluted air, chemicals we apply to our skin, and even the invisible pesticides and herbicides on our unwashed fruit and vegetables. The list is actually endless. A healthy, active liver will recognise, filter and remove toxins from your body. It is also important for:
  • The metabolism of carbohydrates and assisting with maintaining healthy blood sugar levels
  • The metabolism of fats, for example the manufacture of cholesterol and its subsequent breakdown into the bile salts
  • Supporting a healthy immune system. The liver filters micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses from the bloodstream
  • Supporting healthy weight as the liver is the body’s fat burning organ.
However when the liver is not firing on all cylinders it might need a helping hand by way of some proven liver tonics including:
MILK THISTLE: traditionally used to support liver and gall bladder function. Silymarin, a substance found in the seeds, exerts a highly protective effect on the liver, helping to support its function as well as preventing damage from toxic substances such as alcohol and environmental pollutants. The herb contains bitter ingredients, responsible for its action as a digestive tonic. This helps to stimulate the flow of bile from the liver and gall bladder. Bile is essential for digesting fatty foods.

GLOBE ARTICHOKE, the prickly Mediterranean vegetable plant you are all familiar with, benefits the liver by protecting against toxins and infection. This bitter herb helps improve digestion by stimulating bile flow from the liver making it useful for the treatment of gall bladder problems, chronic constipation and fatty liver. It also helps alleviate symptoms of indigestion, nausea, bloating and helps lower mild blood cholesterol levels.
SCHISANDRA,contains lignans which have liver protective actions as well as antioxidant properties helping to protect the liver against damage and helping regenerate damaged liver tissue, proving beneficial in the treatment of hepatitis and poor liver function. Schisandra has been used in traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2000 years as an overall tonic and restorative. The berries tone the kidneys and sexual organs, strengthen the nervous system and cleanse the blood, proving beneficial for herbalists treating skin conditions such as eczema.
TAURINE, an amino acid needed by the liver for removing toxic chemicals from the body and assisting with the elimination of waste. Taurine is a major constituent of bile and helps with maintaining healthy digestion. Inadequate levels of taurine are common in patients with chemical sensitivities and allergies.
ANTIOXIDANTS destroy free radicals and help to protect the cells of the body from toxins. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant vitamin for the liver and helps to reduce toxic damage to the liver cells from chemical overload. Selenium supports cellular health and healthy immunity.
How to give your liver a helping hand
  • Start your day with a squeeze of lemon juice in water to supercharge your liver and aid digestive secretions
  • Eat fresh pineapple or papaya after main meals. These fruits supply digestive enzymes to naturally help improve digestion
  • Sprinkle a tablespoon of lecithin granules on breakfast cereal, stir into yoghurt with fruit or in smoothies. Lecithin aids the digestion and absorption of fats
  • Take a daily liver formula.

The Unexpected Benefits of Going to a Naturopath

The human body is an amazing thing. It is made up of about 200 kinds of cells, each with a job to perform. Cells form the tissue of your beating heart, the hormones that control your moods, and the chemicals that trigger thoughts in your brain. Trillions of cells are performing processes during every second of your life.
Whenever something causes these processes to become unbalanced, the body no longer performs to precision. You may feel specific symptoms or an overall feeling of not being well. A naturopath uses natural resources to help the body restore balance so that you can achieve optimal health. These “resources” often include herbs, but they also extend to meditation, counselling, and other alternative treatments.
The Role of the Naturopath
A natural health provider, or naturopath, has in-depth knowledge of the tools he uses. This knowledge includes an understanding of natural resources such as herbs, and their innate properties. A skilled naturopath has a strong desire to improve the way you feel in body, mind, and spirit. He understands the impact that your physical, mental, and emotional symptoms have on your life.
Prevention is also a large part of naturopathy. The naturopath can look at the morphology of your blood or your genetics to assess your risk for health conditions in the future. He takes a more personalised approach to determining the types of treatments and therapies you need to achieve your best health and general well-being in both the present and the future.
What a Naturopath Can Do for You
Naturopathy is often used to complement medical treatment for chronic conditions. It may also lead to relief for symptoms of common conditions like allergies, food intolerances, digestive disorders, skin disorders, and stress. These conditions are often difficult to pinpoint. While most are not life-threatening, the symptoms you live with each day can greatly affect every area of your health and keep you from enjoying activities that are important to you.
The Dangers of Self-Diagnosis
Some of the conditions that cause a loss of well-being require some trial and error to detect. Many conditions cause similar symptoms in spite of being quite different from one another. This is why self-diagnosis is never a good idea, especially if you are already on medications. Making a wrong assumption or mixing homemade remedies or OTC medications with prescription medications can result in serious complications. Instead, you should put your care into the hands of a knowledgeable and experienced naturopath who knows how to find the best solutions for you.
What to Look for in a Naturopath
There are many levels of naturopathic care providers with varying areas of study. Some of the most important features to look for in a naturopath are training, experience, and the areas of specialty that pertain to naturopathic treatment.
Peter Balogh N.D. more than meets the criteria as a safe and trusted naturopath. He is a certified homeopath with an advanced diploma of nutritional medicine, diploma of natural science which includes herbal medicine, and an advanced diploma of nutritional medicine.
Pete has been providing compassionate care for more than twenty years. He has built a successful practice and the variety of services he offers continues to grow.

THE GUT-BRAIN BARRIER

The gut-brain connection is something that’s been talked about for thousands of years since Hippocrates said ‘all disease begins in the gut’. However, it’s only been in the last two decades we’ve seen strong scientific evidence of the positive effect improved gut health can have on the brain. Kale Brock investigates.
As I’m fond of saying, “your gut is like a central dashboard within the body”, communicating constantly with various extensions such as your immune system, your nervous system, your skin, your heart and, of course, your brain. If you have imbalances or malfunctions in that central dashboard, you can expect malfunctions in the parts reliant on the proper functioning of it. Correct the initial malfunction at the source and expect better functioning along the line, so to speak.
With so many studies pointing to the gut as the source of our ailments, it’s important to look at why this seems to be the case. If research shows so many people are benefiting from taking probiotics or making positive alterations to gut function, then it seems so many people have been out of balance in the gastrointestinal tract. Nature always strives for balance so arguably depression, anxiety and mood swings are a result of an imbalance somewhere in the body.
Why are we so out of balance?
We can’t look past our frivolous use of antibiotics over the past 80 years as being the main culprit of such an imbalance. Antibiotics, as we well know, not only kill off pathogenic microbes but also beneficial ones. And which are the first to grow back in most cases? The pathogenic species. Although antibiotics have been life-saving in many cases, the unfortunate thing is we now have a population whose micro biomes (the collection of microorganisms that inhabit our body) are completely and permanently altered.
We don’t really know what an ideal microbiome is anymore – all we know is that ours have changed completely since the use of antibiotics and we are seeing a huge rise in disease as a result.
When it comes to microbes and our brains the science is quite clear – microbes manufacture our brains most important chemicals known as neurotransmitters within the gastrointestinal tract – up to 90per cent of them in fact. So that serotonin you’ve been wanting, that dopamine to help you feel happy and that all important melatonin to help you fall asleep, are all dependent on gut microbes – interesting huh?
Another factor in the gut-brain connection is the management of inflammation by the actions of gut microbes and the immune system. Our gut bugs are literally talking with our immune cells, teaching them from the time you enter the world how to behave cordially and appropriately. Naturally, if our gut bugs are imbalanced, we can experience numerous immunological challenges. According to research, this seems to stem from increased intestinal permeability, a situation where the thin membrane of the gut (used for diffusing nutrients from the gut into the blood) becomes too leaky and open. This is akin to a flyscreen with large holes and tears in it.
Alongside macromolecules of food, pathogenic microbes and other such intruders now in the bloodstream, a specific marker has been noted to be particularly damaging on the body and brain. LPS, or lip polysaccharide, has been found to be in extremely high levels in Alzheimer’s disease and is known to cause neuron damage in the brain.
These factors may be instrumental in the development of mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety and mood swings as the brain becomes inflamed and less capable of processing information. In fact, research shows mice who receive probiotic treatment and then experience stressful situations report less cortisol development(a stress hormone) and behaviourally seem to be ‘more chilled’. This experiment has been replicated in humans where probiotic treatment regularly reduces qualitative anxiety scores.
Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride goes as far as saying autism is a manifestation of a gut that has become a source of toxicity instead of a source of nutrition during developmental years. According to her, if the condition is treated early enough the autistic symptoms can be reversed. Research supports her opinion by showing autistic children are regularly found to have different gut microbes to their healthy counterparts, specifically having higher levels of microbes like E.coli and clostridia.
So what does all this mean?
If we want to experience great mental health, then considering an approach that looks at the gut is a good move. By taking a sensible, long-term approach, like taking probiotics regularly and eating a diet high in fibre and wholefoods, may be key to attaining a more balanced brain.
I also believe this research suggests we heighten our respect for the human body, which seems to respond well to holistic treatment available from nature. As science continues to uncover the specifics of disease and the microbiome, and how we can pinpoint specific bugs for specific conditions, expect huge improvements in the symptom-based approach of western medicine.

Sensible Weight Loss Tips

Dieting sucks! We all know it, but these natural weight loss tips will help you take control of your lifestyle and your health. Making positive, healthy choices can make a world of difference to your life and your waistline.

  • When hunger hits, drink some water then wait 10 minutes before eating to see if the hunger feeling passes.
  • Try to avoid sugar. Highly sweetened foods tend to make you crave more.
  • Water itself helps cut down on water retention because it acts as a diuretic. Taken before meals, it dulls the appetite by giving you a feeling of fullness.
  • Support is important, and caring people can help one another succeed in making healthy changes, set your goals with a friend.
  • Substitute activity for eating. When the cravings hit, go to the gym if possible; or dust, or go for a walk.
  • Try to exercise at least 3 times a week.
  • Try not to eat after 7pm. If you’re a late-night eater, have a low GI carbohydrate, such as a wholegrain cracker before bedtime to cut down on cravings.
  • If you use food as a reward, establish a new reward system. Buy yourself a non-edible reward.
  • Weigh yourself once a week at the same time. Your weight fluctuates constantly and you can weigh more at night than you did in the morning, a downer if you have had a great day.
  • Leave something on your plate, even if you are a member of the ‘Clean the Plate Club’. It’s a good sign that you can stop eating when you want to, not just when your plate is empty.
  • Avoid finger foods that are easy to eat in large amounts. Keep plenty of crunchy foods like raw vegetables and air-popped fat-free popcorn on hand. They’re satisfying and filling.
  • Avoid drinking large quantities of fattening liquids, which are so easy to overdo. This includes alcoholic beverages. Sip Chai Tea throughout the day as well as water.
  • Don’t shop when you’re hungry, unless you can bypass the biscuits and buy an apple.
  • Make the kitchen off-limits at any time other than mealtime. Always eat at the table, never in front of the TV. Concentrate on eating every mouthful slowly and deliberately. Chew everything from 10 to 20 times and count!
  • Try to eat 6 smaller meals during the day rather than 3 big meals.
  • Never skip meals. Your metabolism will slow down as your body goes into starvation mode.
Most importantly, lose weight for yourself, your health and your self esteem, not to please your family or your friends.

Eating Well For Busy Mums

Are you feeling tired, stressed and lacking in energy?
If you are a working mum, we know that combining this with raising a family can be challenging; cleaning the house, making lunches, dinner and snacks, driving kids to school and after school commitments, doing the laundry, shopping for the household and then trying to deliver on all your work commitments can leave you feeling pretty exhausted and drained! If this sounds like you then try these tips for hardworking mums:

Eat well. A balanced diet filled with fresh fruits, vegetables and rich in fibre will help you feel full and reduce you snacking on junk food. If you are feeling stressed and run down add a protein shake to your daily snacks as it will help to reduce fatigue and boost energy levels.
Make time to sleep. Sleep is vital to both your physical health and your emotional wellbeing. Without it, you can’t function properly and your immune function and metabolism may also be compromised.  If you have trouble sleeping, talk to your Go Vita naturopath who can suggest some natural remedies for you to try.
Exercise when you can. Not only will exercise help keep your weight under control, but it’ll do wonders for your positive outlook on life! Walking is ideal, and make sure you choose a route that incorporates a few hills or staircases.
Naturopath, Peter Balogh at Go Vita Tanunda recommends that you try a multi. He suggests a good broad-spectrum multivitamin every day.  A very simple strategy, but at the end of the day you can’t afford to be sick so getting the right nutrients daily can help support your immune system and keep you well. You will also find that the right combination of nutrients will also do wonders for your hair, skin and nails. So not only will you feel great but you’ll look great too!

WHEN DEPRESSION HITS

We all go through stages where we feel depressed. It can affect our appetite, sleep, self esteem and general outlook on life. It may be short lived and we often snap out of it.

Depressive disorders may arise when the symptoms without treatment, continues for weeks, months, or years.

Major or clinical depression consists of symptoms that interfere with our basic everyday activities – work, study, sleeping, eating and recreation.

If these symptoms are familiar to you, speak to your healthcare professional to help you get back on track. You always feel sad, anxious, restless, and irritable, fatigued or lack a healthy self esteem.

  • Sleep changes – you need more sleep or keep waking up in the middle of the night or early morning.
  • Change in appetite – may be increased or decreased, leading to weight gain or loss.
  • You seem to lack vitality and lust for life – activities that were fun before seem uninteresting

You may experience other symptoms such as chronic pain that doesn’t respond to treatment.

  • Everything seems so difficult, poor concentration
  • Thoughts of suicide or death.
  • Triggers for depression

Brain chemicals, called ‘neurotransmitters’ – high and low levels may cause or contribute to clinical depression. Women are more prone to clinical depression compared to men. Hormonal changes during menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth and menopause may be the answer.

Chronic illness or conditions can bring on clinical depression
Medications – side effects of some medications
Genetic tendency – especially bipolar
Everyday living gets too difficult – divorce, financial problems or the death of a loved one etc.
What natural therapies can help?

St John’s wort – clinical trials using extracts of St John’s wort have focused mainly on its effects in patients with mild depression (also associated with menopause), nervous tension and anxiety. It has been shown to decrease symptoms of depression and nervous tension.

There have been a number of studies on the use of SAMe for depression. SAMe increases the availability of neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine.
  • B group vitamins – support the nervous system
  • Vitamin B6 has been clinically proven to be of benefit to patients with premenstrual symptoms in particular anxiety and depression.
  • Calcium and magnesium – are calming minerals important for nerve transmission.
  • Fish oil – research suggests eating fish lowers the risk of depression and suicide and the prevalence of depression is lower in countries with higher fish consumption.
  • Take it easy and give yourself a break. Set realistic goals.
  • Take small bites – break large tasks into small ones, set priorities.
If you are not up to it, leave important decision making to when you are feeling better.

Let your family and friends know what you are going through. It is good to talk about how you are feeling. If there is a time when any important decisions can’t be put on hold they can help sort out the situation.

Don’t overburden your body with the extra stress of late nights, alcohol, excessive caffeine and junk food. Get adequate rest and follow a healthy diet

Chill out – exercise and stretching helps clear your mind and relax your muscles. Try deep breathing exercises and meditation if you can’t slow down

Take time out every day to do something YOU enjoy

Speak to your Naturopath or healthcare professional at Go Vita about how you are feeling.

THE SPIRIT OF BEING A WOMAN

The nurturing aspect of enhancing our natural beauty with chemical free make-up that performs as well as any mainstream brand is important to our team at GoVita Tanunda. We advocate thinking a little deeper into what beauty products we use and promote, then investing in brands that reflect our devotion to health focused beauty.
Let our Professional Make-Up artist show you how by booking a make-over tutorial using our Certified Organic, 100% Natural, botanical, vegan, cruelty free and non-toxic cosmetic brands
A lot of us slip between being a glamour girl and our everyday organic selves.
There is something fabulous about wandering through the beauty counters in the big Department stores that feels feminine and indulgent.
When we were younger, we were lovers of the most fancied beauty products. We were young cosmetic addicts, on a quest for clear skin, delightful smells, becoming a real grown-up woman through the transformation that make-up promised.
Cosmetics and skin care products are part of what is to be a woman. They allow us daily creativity, a feminine rite of passage!
In a way, it’s like an expression of self to indulge in the scents, the creams, the powders, the liners, the colours, the idea!
Looking back, we had no idea the products that we were using on our skin made our torturous acne and hormonal problems worse. It’s only when we learned about and transitioned to clean, organic brands, that we finally witnessed the most glowing versions of ourselves. And we didn’t have to give up our beloved makeup!
It’s powerful seeing the gorgeous models gaze down like a goddess from the Department store cosmetic counter. Watching the edgy, dark looks of the model daring you to be different on TV, or the sparkling temptress hypnotizing you from the Brand advertised in your favourite magazine.
They radiate the power of women with confidence.
While the flawless women who stare at us from cosmetic advertising may inspire us, if we embrace the self-love message beyond the superficial pursuit of perfection, it’s possible to see the whole charade of mainstream cosmetic marketing from a different perspective.
But, mainstream product marketing, unfortunately, does not alert us to health-harmful chemicals. It does not send out alarms to warn us of the fact that by using their products we are exposing ourselves to endocrine disruption (severe or slight hormonal disturbances), allergens, pollutants and very nasty toxic ingredients.
The number of women who trust the illusion of flawlessness from such harmful products is a real concern.
More and more our natural beauty role models are becoming famous for promoting products that are natural, ethically sound and positive for our physical health as well as our self-image. These women are opening doors toward meaningful changes in the beauty industry.
We should be proud of wanting to take care of ourselves and investing in our confidence as natural beauties!

Probiotics – Balancing Intestinal Flora | Natural Beauty Products

Human intestines contain almost 100 trillion viable bacteria. These live bacteria, which make up 30% of the faecal mass, are known as the intestinal flora. For our well-being, it is most essential to maintain an appropriate balance of intestinal flora. An abnormal or damaged gut flora can be the source of serious illness, including auto-immune disorders and dangerous food allergies.

Role of Intestinal flora:

The gastrointestinal tract is a complex system that allows the body to digest and absorb food while moving wastes for excretion. For the intestinal tract to function properly, normal flora must be present. Intestinal flora are types of microorganisms known as probiotics that live normally as part of the intestinal tract. These organisms have several functions that help the body, but also gain benefits from their hosts. Intestinal flora are found in both the large and small intestines.

Intestinal flora and the immune system:

There is a crucial relationship between intestinal flora and your immune system. It is the first line of defense between you and anything dangerous you happen to swallow.Intestinal flora strengthen the physical defenses of the gut wall and regulates the inflammation and inflammatory immune response. Some types of normal intestinal flora work to protect the body against certain kinds of infection. This may be through inhibiting the growth of harmful organisms that can cause infection.Alternatively, some types of intestinal flora prevent infection by creating an intestinal barrier.

Balance of intestinal flora with pribiotics:

Pribiotics, which means “for life” can be defined as live organisms that assist with the processing of food. Pribiotics can be beneficial to improve the digestion. Re-establishing of intestinal flora with the probiotics can help to maintain a normal healthy response to allergens.

Danisco® probiotics:

Danisco® is a pribiotic that is used by the people worldwide. It employs patent stabilisation technology ensuring that their pribiotic do not require refrigeration, they can bestable at room temperature. Herbs of Gold chooses several pribiotics on the basis of their ability to survive stomach acid and therefore reach the intestines, where they colonise and adhere to the intestinal wall. These are mentioned below:

    Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14
    Bifidobacteriumlactis BI-04
    Lactobacillus plantarum Lp-115
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Boulardii), often known as SB

From all of these pribiotics, SB is fully resistant to antibiotics while others are 50-77% are resistant to antibiotics. Pribiotics majorly helps to improve the better digestion, to build the immunity and resist the infection.

Activated B Complex

Required for healthy body and brain

B vitamins specifically vitamin B9 helps in cell building and maintains DNA. It promotes the growth of red blood cells. It also helps to reduce the risk of birth defects and activated vitamin B12 helps regulate the nervous system and helps in red blood cell formation. People can get B Vitamins from their balanced diet filled with delicious foods naturally rich in B vitamins but as Vitamin B is soluble in water they need to taken as Vitamin B complex.

Firstly, we need to understand how activated B vitamins are different from non-activated B vitamins.

Activated vitamins are readily available to be utilized by the body as they do not have to be broken down and manufactured by the body into a usable form as is the case with the inactive vitamins. This is beneficial if there is a problem with the process of digestion or if some enzymatic functions are lacking in some way. Activated vitamins are important co-factors for many body processes. In the case of Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (P-5-P or activated B6) it is involved in more than 80% of reactions in the neurochemistry of the brain but it requires one-step process of re-adding a phosphate group before it becomes active. Whereas, non-activated B vitamins require some form of metabolic or enzymatic conversion to be made usable by our body.

Activated B vitamins may be beneficial for those who:

  •     Are fond of consuming refined or processed foods
  •     Consume medicines that deplete B vitamins
  •     Have issues related to digestive system
  •     Have MTHFR polymorphisms

MTHFR polymorphisms

People having methylene-tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) polymorphisms need B Vitamins as MTHFR gene is responsible for the production of the MTHFR enzyme which allows correct metabolism of B9 and in combination with vitamin B12, works as a methyl group donor in a wide variety of metabolic and nervous system processes.

Many gene variations can affect B9 (folate) metabolism and significantly increase the risk of B9 deficiency in affected individuals, even if they are taking recommended daily intakes.

The most common MTHFR mutations that affect genes are:-

MTHFR C677T and MTHFR A1298C. Mutations can occur on different locations of these genes and be inherited from only one or both parents. Having one mutated genes is related to risk of certain health problems but having two increases the risk much more.

An MTHFR gene mutation can change the metabolic activities in some people and convert important nutrients from their diets into active vitamins, minerals and proteins. Genetic mutations can also alter neurotransmitter and hormone levels. In some cases this enzyme can affect health parameters, such as cholesterol levels, brain function, digestion, endocrine functions.

B vitamins as a group help to maintain:

  •     Energetic and healthy body
  •     Happy and stress free life
  •     Prevents Memory Loss and Lowers Risk of Neurodegenerative Disease
  •     Helps to keep nervous system healthy
  •     Required for Healthy Skin and Hair
  •     Help Prevent Cancer and Anemia
  •     Good cardiovascular system
